| Tigers optimistic Austin Jackson will return when eligible |

(5/18/13) Tigers manager Jim Leyland is optimistic that center fielder Austin Jackson, who is on the disabled list with a strained left hamstring, will be able to return May 28, the first day he's eligible to come off the disabled list, MLive.com reports.
"He's doing good," Leyland said. "He should be on time."
Jackson could go on a one- or two-game rehab assignment before returning to the Tigers.

(5/13/13) It turned out after all Austin Jackson's hamstring injury was more serious than the Tigers let on. The team announced Monday they placed Jackson, who missed Sunday's game against the Indians, on the 15-day disabled list with a pulled right hamstring and recalled prospect Avisail Garcia from Triple-A Toledo, according to MLB.com.
Manager Jim Leyland said Sunday he held Jackson out of the lineup "for precautionary reasons" and considered Jackson a "go" if needed.

(5/13/13) Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson was held out of Sunday's lineup against the Indians because of soreness in his right hamstring, but it's not a major concern. Manager Jim Leyland sat Jackson as a precaution, per MLB.com.
"He can go," Leyland said, "but it's hard for him to really burn into that extra gear. So I'm just giving him a day off for precautionary reasons."
The Tigers open a series with Houston Monday. Jackson is batting .267 (16 for 60) with one home run, four doubles, four RBI, six walks, 13 runs and 16 strikeouts in his last 15 games.

(5/12/13) Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson is out of Sunday's lineup, MLB.com reports.
Jackson has played in all 34 games (33 starts) for Detroit, so it's about time he earned a rest day. Jackson is hitting .272/.333/.371 with five steals and 33 runs scored.

(5/4/13) Tigers outfielder Austin Jackson returned to the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Astros after coming off the bench the night before. He has been dealing with a sore left hamstring but the 26-year-old told MLB.com he benefited from the day off.
"You get a chance to get a full day of work on it," he said of the hamstring. "Give it a break for a day. It definitely helped. It's kind of tough to work on it when you're playing every day."

| Austin Jackson tested the patience of Fantasy owners over his first two seasons by striking out 351 times in 1209 at-bats. Especially since he had more modest strikeout rates in the minors, his difficulties with making contact were a frustration for his owners. Those who put their faith in Jackson in 2012 were rewarded, as he struck out 134 times in 543 at-bats -- a rate that is higher than average but far better than those previously posted. That helped Jackson to hit .300 for the first time as well as hit six more home runs and seven more doubles than he did in 2011, even though he had 48 fewer at-bats. He walked more often, too, and the only number headed in the wrong direction was his 12 stolen bases, down from 22 the year before. Even if he doesn't steal 20 or more bases again, Jackson has emerged as a top 30 outfielder, given his ability to provide a high batting average, produce runs and hit for moderate power.
