McCutchen having a blast: Pittsburgh outfielder Andrew McCutchen went 2 for 4 with a pair of two-run homers during the Pirates' 4-3 victory over Detroit in an interleague game on Saturday. It was the sixth career multihomer game for McCutchen, who now has seven home runs on the season. A day after going hitless in three at-bats as the Tigers' Justin Verlander took a no-hitter into the ninth, McCutchen struck back with his second multihomer game in three days. "I really wouldn't say I had real tough at-bats against Verlander. I had some decent at-bats, but he just got the best of me," he said. "You just show up tomorrow and get 'em the next day." Fantasy Analysis
Pittsburgh is hitting .218 as a team, but McCutchen is at a lofty .346 and establishing himself as one of the game's top sluggers. "We joke in the dugout, 'Why do you throw this guy a strike?'" Pirates starting pitcher A.J. Burnett said. "But some pitches he's hitting are good pitches too, so it just shows you what kind of player Cutch is." Most of his damage has come against lefties as he is 10 for his last 15 against southpaws and 18 for 40 against them on the season. Fantasy owners should continue to roll with McCutchen as a must-start option. (Updated 05/19/2012).

05/20/2012 02:30 The Lineup: Pair of Red Sox combine for 26 letters, 2 HRs
The Red Sox set an odd record on Saturday, as Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Will Middlebrooks both homered to set a new record for most total number of letters by teammates to homer in the same game. Meanwhile, Nationals pitcher Ross Detwiler may be looking over his shoulder in D.C.
05/19/2012 19:22 Pirates bounce back, edge Tigers
Andrew McCutchen hit a pair of two-run homers and A.J. Burnett pitched six solid innings to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.
05/18/2012 21:53 Verlander's near no-hitter carries Tigers
Justin Verlander came within two outs of his third career no-hitter, allowing only Josh Harrison's ninth-inning single in the Detroit Tigers' 6-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.
Andrew McCutchen had the breakout campaign Fantasy owners had been waiting for in 2011. After showing flashes in his first two years in the majors, he was able to put it all together and batted .291 with 14 homers, 54 RBI and 15 stolen bases in the first half. But after making his first All-Star Game, he hit just .216 with a .392 slugging percentage down the stretch. Despite his second-half struggles, the 25-year-old posted career highs in home runs (23), RBI (89), and walks (89). He heads into 2012 with a ton of expectations and could soon become a 30-30 performer, though likely not in 2012. He is the most potent bat in a young lineup and should be able to take his game to the next level this season. McCutchen should be targeted as a Top 10 Fantasy outfielder on Draft Day.
