Carl Pavano calls it quits
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(2/26/14) Veteran pitcher Carl Pavano has admitted that his comeback attempt has failed and he has announced his reitrement. He claimed that his spleen injury and the time it had taken to recover from it motivated his decision.
Pavano had not pitched since 2012 with Minnesota. He finishes his career with a 108-107 record and 4.39 ERA. He peaked at 18-8 and 3.00 ERA with Florida in 2004.
Carl Pavano likely to throw off mound soon
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(2/11/14) Free-agent pitcher Carl Pavano said that he feels good, and he will likely throw off a mound in about a week, MLBDailyDish.com reports.
Provided Pavano doesn't suffer any setbacks by the time he throws off a mound, he'll likely have a free-agent showcase for interested teams lined up shortly after the mound session. Pavano suffered a ruptured spleen that kept him out for the entire 2013 season after surgery. He went 2-5 with a 6.00 ERA over 63 innings in 11 starts with the Twins in 2012.
Carl Pavano aiming to throw bullpen sessions in mid-February

|(1/19/14) Free agent pitcher Carl Pavano, who missed the 2013 season while recovering from life-threatening injuries suffered in a fall at his Vermont home last winter, continues to throw off flat ground, his agent -- Dave Pepe -- told The Boston Globe.
Pavano hasn't made a major-league start since June 1, 2012. The last team he pitched for was the Twins (2009-12).
"Some teams have popped in to see where he’s at. Our intention is for him to throw bullpens for teams in mid-February," Pepe said.
Carl Pavano contemplating return to pitching
|by Al Melchior | Data Analyst|
|(11/4/13) After having missed all of the 2013 season, free agent starting pitcher Carl Pavano will start throwing again on Dec. 1, according to the New York Post. Pavano wants to see if he will try making a comeback for the 2014 season.
Pavano was out all last season due to a ruptured spleen and the subsequent removal of the spleen. He last pitched in the majors for the Twins in 2012, going 2-5 with a 6.00 ERA in 11 starts.
Carl Pavano will not pitch this season
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(5/30/13) Free agent pitcher Carl Pavano had to have his spleen removed, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. The surgery ended his hopes of playing this season.
Pavano fell while shoveling snow at his house during the winter and has been unable to begin working out.
"Carl will not be physically able to play this year as he recovers from his spleen removal and the complications that followed,'' Pavano's agent Dave Pepe told Heyman, via text message. "His hope is that he can give it a try next year.''
Twins place RHP Pavano on DL with shoulder strain
The Minnesota Twins have placed Carl Pavano on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain and reinstated right-hander Nick Blackburn to start later this week.
Stock Watch: Santana looks like old self; Pavano, Jimenez don't look right
Improbable. Historic. And all heart. Jon Heyman says Johan Santana's no-hitter shows just how fast he has gotten back to his old self. Elsewhere, Cleveland is wondering if Ubaldo Jimenez will ever resemble an ace again.
