Preseason Outlook

The good news is Polanco hit 10 home runs -- his most since 2004 -- and drove in a career-high 72 runs last year. The bad news is he hit .285, marking only the second time in the last five years he hit below .300. If you invest in him in Fantasy, you do so with the expectation he'll hit for a high batting average because he doesn't have much else to fall back on. The good news is he returns to Philadelphia, where he hit 31 homers over two seasons earlier in his career. A return to those numbers seems unlikely at age 34, but you don't want to give up on him entirely. Age usually affects power and speed before it affects a player's ability to slap his way to .300, and Polanco did rebound to hit .315 in the second half. Plus, he moves from second to third base this year, improving his versatility. Still, he's no more than a late-round pick since the one thing he does well is no sure thing. (Updated 12/22/09)
