|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(11/6/13) Marlins outfielder Juan Pierre, third baseman Placido Polanco, outfielder Matt Diaz, outfielder Austin Kearns and relief pitcher Chad Qualls have filed for free agency.
All were just role players in 2013. Qualls figures to attract the most interest after posting a 2.61 ERA in 66 appearances.
|Placido Polanco on the fence about returning next season |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(9/20/13) Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco is noncommittal about continuing his playing career after the 2013 season, the Sun Sentinel reports.
"It depends," Polanco told the Sun Sentinel. "It has to be close to home. I have to see what's out there, but the kids, the wife and family is probably ready for me to be home now. This year was really good, the fact I was at home most of the time. It seems like the season went by quick and everybody was happy."
Polanco has hit .251/.306/.290 in 362 at-bats.

(8/27/13) Marlins infielder Placido Polanco has been activated from the seven day concussion list Tuesday.

|Placido Polanco nearly done resting |
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
(8/22/13) Marlins infielder Placido Polanco has been at home resting since being placed on the disabled list with a concussion Monday, but he will rejoin the team Thursday. Polanco will take part in light cardio exercise on a stationary bike, and will be evaluated afterwards to monitor his progress. There is currently no timetable for his return.
|Placido Polanco placed on 7-day DL |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(8/19/13) The Marlins placed third baseman Placido Polanco (concussion) on the 7-day disabled list Monday. Polanco hasn't played since being beaned in the head Friday.
|Placido Polanco spent the 16th season of his MLB career with the Marlins in 2013. He began the year as the team's starting third baseman, but when he started to deal with health problems after two months, he began to make less frequent appearances in the starting lineup. Polanco would play in 118 games, batting .260 with one home run, 13 doubles, 23 RBI and 33 runs. When he has been healthy, Polanco's numbers the last two seasons have been pretty similar. He's a mid-.200 hitter with no power and little RBI production. Polanco is trying to keep his MLB career going, but he's probably looking at a bench role since he's proven the last few years his body can't hold up for an entire season the closer he gets to 40 years old. Polanco wouldn't have much Fantasy value if he was a full-time starter, so you can leave him off Fantasy rosters.
