| Placido Polanco continues to struggle while hitting third |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (5/8/13) Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco was back in the third spot of the lineup Wednesday but went 0 for 4, dropping his season line to .248/.311/.281 in 132 plate appearances. He has yet to hit a home run this season, but the other options for the Marlins in the heart of the order aren't much better.

| Placido Polanco extends hitting streak to six games |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (4/26/13) Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco extended his hitting streak to six games with a 1-for-4 performance against the Cubs Friday. He's posted at least one hit in 17 of his 21 games this season while hitting .288/.345/.338 in 87 plate appearances.

| Placido Polanco records fifth multi-hit game |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (4/17/13) Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco recorded his fifth multi-hit game of April Wednesday, going 2 for 4 with a double in his team's 6-1 loss to the Nationals.
Polanco has been held hitless in just three of his 14 games while hitting .327/.364/.385, striking out only once in 55 plate appearances.

| Marlins keeping Placido Polanco fresh |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/7/13) Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco was held out of the lineup for the first time this season in Miami's series finale against the Mets Sunday. Chris Valaika started at third in his place, his first big-league game since Sept. 11, 2011 as a member of the Reds.
"We talked about it all spring: We need him for the long haul," manager Mike Redmond said about Polanco. "He means a lot to this team, we've got to take care of him. We don't want to overdo it."
Polanco, 37, has moved to the No. 2 spot in the batting order after spending the first two games as the team's unlikely cleanup hitter. He has responded with four hits in 14 at-bats (.285) and two RBI.

| Placido Polanco assumes cleanup duty |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/1/13) Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco went 1 for 3 with a single during Miami's 2-0 loss to Washington on opening day Monday. Polanco began his unexpected tenure as the team's cleanup hitter and produced one of only three hits off Nationals starter Stephen Strasburg.
Despite hitting just two home runs last season, Polanco will occupy the No. 4 spot in the lineup as Marlins manager Mike Redmond likes the noted contact hitter slotting behind Giancarlo Stanton in the batting order.
|
| Dogged by back, wrist, finger and knee problems in 2012, Placido Polanco produced a disastrous line for his Fantasy owners, hitting just .257 (his lowest average since 1998), with two home runs, 19 RBI and no steals (a career first) in 303 at-bats. The 37-year-old eventually lost his job to Kevin Frandsen and was cut loose by the Phillies after the season, ending up with the decimated Marlins and a starting job at third base. Polanco doesn't supply enough power or speed to be embraced by the masses in Fantasy, and he lost middle infield eligibility in 2010, so he only qualifies at third base (unless the wide-open Marlins throw him at second base for a spell). Polanco can supply average to a team in need, but his days of being a mixed-league contributor are gone. Polanco is a late-round bench addition in NL-only formats. (Updated 1/2/13) |
