Lincecum focusing on first-pitch strikes: The San Francisco Chronicle reports Giants SP Tim Lincecum said his first order of business this spring is to work on throwing more first-pitch strikes. "First strikes are huge," Lincecum said. "I struggled a lot last year with that." Manager Bruce Bochy is on board with Lincecum's plan of action. "That's one of the things we really preach here," Bochy said. "We're in a ballpark where pitchers should have that confidence to throw first-pitch strikes." (Updated 02/06/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Lincecum had his first losing season as a pro in 2011, but he still won 13 games, posted a 2.74 ERA and struck out a batter per inning. Even in his worst campaigns, Lincecum is still one of the best pitchers in the majors. It's good to see that he still has some areas to improve and remains motivated. 01/27/2012 04:25 2012 Fantasy outlooks: Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona went from worst to first in 2011, but will the breakthrough performances that sent them to the playoffs return in 2012? Scott White dives into the Diamondbacks in a Fantasy team outlook.
It was just two years ago that Tim Lincecum was arguably the most valuable pitcher in Fantasy. He has lost some zip from his fastball and started to rely more on his slider, but he should still rank among the top starters in 2012. Lincecum continues to strike out more than a batter per inning and do a good job of avoiding home runs. Barring an uptick in his strikeout rate, he probably won't overtake the likes of Clayton Kershaw, Roy Halladay or Justin Verlander for Fantasy supremacy, but Lincecum is still a viable No. 1 SP. Owners should plan on targeting the two-time NL Cy Young winner by the third round in mixed league drafts. (Updated 1/5/12)
