| Herrera sent down after stinker |
| (8/5/08) Pirates RHP Yoslan Herrera lasted a season-worst 1 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and four hits with three walks. The 27-year-old right-hander, making his fifth career start, has a 9.82 ERA and opponents are hitting .427 against him. He threw only 14 of his 34 pitches for strikes and was optioned to Double-A Altoona after the game. "It wasn't good," Pirates manager John Russell said. "He was all over. He was flirting with a lot of trouble every inning and just couldn't get anything going." |
| Herrera lasts just four outs |
| (8/5/08) Pirates SP Yoslan Herrera was handed a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the first inning Monday against the Diamondbacks, but couldn't hold it and was done after four outs. Mark Reynolds hit a bases-loaded single to left off Herrera to cut the lead to 3-1 in the first and the Diamondbacks tied the game in the second on Stephen Drew's two-run infield single off the top of Doug Mientkiewicz's glove as the first baseman dived to his right. Herrera lasted a season-worst 1 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and four hits with three walks. |

| (7/30/08) Pirates SP Yoslan Herrera was no decisioned over five innings of work Tuesday. Herrera allowed four runs on six hits, walked four and only recorded one strikeout. His ERA is a round 9.00 in four starts. |

Bay, Nady homer to back Herrera's first major league win
Yoslan Herrera pitched six shutout innings for his first major league win, and the Pittsburgh Pirates got back-to-back homers from Jason Bay and Xavier Nady in a 9-1 victory over the San Diego Padres on Thursday night.
