Injury Report
Shoulder - 60-day DL. Out until at least early June (Updated - 5/2/12)
Fantasy Analysis
Braden was shut down from throwing in early April after experiencing soreness but it looks as though he can start to ramp up his rehab again. He has been injury-prone for much of his career but the left-hander has proven to be a viable option in Fantasy when healthy. Keep an eye on his progress going forward and keep Braden stashed away in AL-only formats until he is able to return. (Updated 05/08/2012).
03/20/2012 14:35 A's camp report: Likes and dislikes
Oakland has issues that no other team in baseball has. Like how to protect a rookie pitching prospect in the batting order. Or the absence of a true third baseman. Danny Knobler says don't expect much from Billy Beane's latest science project.
03/20/2012 14:32 A's camp report: Constant roster change never stops in Oakland
After dealing three good, young arms for three younger, the thrifty A's don't expect to compete with the Rangers and Angels. At least, not this year. Danny Knobler says it's business as usual in Oakland.
03/15/2012 21:24 Thursday injury update: Braves' Arodys Vizcaino to see Dr. James Andrews
Braves prospect Arodys Vizcaino is scheduled to see famed surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Friday to examine the ulnar collateral ligament in his right arm. Meanwhile, Nationals right-hander Chien-Ming Wang suffered another injury.
After a career campaign in 2010, Dallas Braden only made three starts a year ago as a shoulder injury cost him much of the season. He went 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA before he was sidelined with the injury and subsequently underwent surgery to repair a torn capsule in his left shoulder. He has shown in his young career that he will not walk many batters and posts enough strikeouts to make him appealing. The 28-year-old is expected to be ready for the start of the 2012 season but as owners know, shoulder injuries are sometimes tricky to come back from. But Braden showed by going 19-23 with a 3.66 ERA in 52 starts from 2009-2010 that he definitely has a place in Fantasy, so don't sleep on him on Draft Day. He has the potential to be a sleeper in larger formats but target Braden more so in deeper mixed leagues and AL-only formats heading into the season. (Updated 2/17/12)
