West needs 'some consistency': Marlins president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest told the Sun-Sentinel on Thursday that he has been impressed with what he's seen from SP Sean West in the minors this season, but would like to see the left-hander show some more consistency. West has gone 3-5 with a 6.41 ERA in 11 starts for Triple-A New Orleans. Its been a little bit of hit and miss," Beinfest said. "Its been good at times and hasnt been up to his potential at times. The ability is still there and the upside is still there. We just need some consistency. (Updated 07/14/2011)

Fantasy Analysis
West had a late start to the season due to an elbow injury and has been a bit of a disappointment after going 4-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 11 starts at Triple-A a year ago. While he did not fare as well in the majors, at least the Marlins thought enough of him to give him two starts with the big club. He could be an option for a promotion if the Marlins fall out of the race or Chris Volstad continues to struggle so keep an eye on the situation going forward. The 25-year-old has some decent potential but should be ignored in all but deeper long-term keeper leagues at this point. (Updated 07/14/2011).
