(12/4/13) ESPN.com reports that the Yankees' signing of center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury does not signal a trade of incumbent center fielder Brett Gardner. According to a source, "The whole idea is to put the two of them at the top of the lineup."
Gardner had a .344 on-base percentage with 81 runs scored and 24 stolen bases in 2013, and he served as the Yankees' leadoff hitter in 132 games.

(9/21/13) Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is still not sure about his chances of returning this season, due to a strained rib cage. But he will try to run for the first time this weekend. He is set to begin working out on a treadmill Sunday.
"I am feeling good but I haven’t run yet," Gardner told the New York Post Saturday. "I am going to try the treadmill [Sunday] and then get outside Tuesday."
Gardner has not played since Sept. 12 due to the injury.

(9/15/13) Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is pessimistic about his chances to return to the Yankees this season, The Journal News reports. Gardner has been out since Sept. 12 with a Grade 1 left oblique strain and it's unclear if he would be available for the playoffs should the Yankees advance.

(9/13/13) Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is out with a grade 1 ribcage strain and could miss the rest of the season as a result, MLB.com reports.
Manager Joe Girardi also left open the possibility the speedy Gardner could return as a pinch-runner. If Gardner's season is over, he'll finish with a .273/.344/.416 atting line with eight home runs and 24 stolen bases in 145 games.

(9/12/13) Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner is returning to New York to undergo an MRI on his injured left oblique. Gardner suffered the injury in the first at-bat of Thursday's game and did not take the field in the bottom of the first inning.
