Preseason Outlook

Here is an incredible talent, albeit miscast in too many different roles in the major leagues. Morrow, who was once J.J. Putz's 100 mph-throwing setup man, began last spring as a projected starter. Then a diabetic issue got in the way and kept him from stretching out enough to be ready for the start of the season, so the Mariners decided to slot him as the closer. That didn't last long and David Aardsma wound up being one of the breakthrough closers of the year for the Mariners. Morrow finished the season as a starter and he wants to stay there full time for the Blue Jays, who acquired him this winter. Morrow will be a potential breakout as a Fantasy starter, especially since he will retain relief eligibility in some leagues. Since he hasn't been stretched out in any one of his four pro seasons, though, we cannot project as many as 180 innings. That keeps him out of the top 75 pitchers to target on Draft Day, even if he has top 25 potential. He could prove to be a steal. (Updated 1/13/10)
