Giants OF Gregor Blanco slugs leadoff HR in World Series Game 2
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(10/22/14) Giants outfielder Gregor Blanco went 1 for 4 with a walk and a solo home run in his team's 7-2 loss in Game 2 of the World Series against the Royals.
Blanco opened the game by running Royals starter Yordano Ventura to a full count before crushing a ball over the right-field fence to give the Giants an early lead, but the Royals evened the score in the bottom half of the first and didn't trail for the rest of the night. Blanco has hit just .176/.276/.255 in 51 postseason at-bats but has turned it up since Game 3 of the NLCS, going 5 for 15 with three walks, the home run and three RBI. The two teams head to San Francisco Friday tied 1-1 in the series.

|(7/4/14) Slumping Giants center fielder Gregor Blanco is taking a seat Friday for the game at San Diego. His spot will be manned by Juan Perez.
Blanco managed two hits in his last game, but is 5 for 28 since June 25.
|2014 Summary: Injuries to Angel Pagan, Michael Morse and Brandon Belt created an opening for Gregor Blanco to start 92 games in the Giants' outfield, and in 444 plate appearances, he put up a .260/.333/.374 slash line with 16 stolen bases. He played regularly over the final five weeks of the season, and he heated up, batting .284 with nine doubles, three triples and four home runs in 32 games.|
Playing time status: Perhaps between his late-season surge and the potential departure of Morse, Blanco can gain some consideration to man left field for the Giants in 2015, but the 31-year-old has firmly establshed himself as a fourth outfielder and could return to that role.
2015 Outlook: Blanco's unexpected late-season power surge was vaguely reminiscent of Andres Torres' surprising 2010 campaign with the Giants, but Torres' streak was more sustained than Blanco's, and his resurgence didn't have much staying power. Blanco can provide enough steals to be worth targeting late in NL-only drafts, but he's not guaranteed enough of a role to be worth pursuing in mixed leagues.
