Cardenas receives call to majors: The Cubs optioned pitcher Travis Wood to Triple-A Iowa on Monday and called up infielder Adrian Cardenas. Cardenas batted .319 with two homers and 18 RBI in 26 games in the minors. "The guy can hit," manager Dale Sveum told MLB.com. "He can square a ball up. He's got good bat speed. He gives us another nice left-handed bat off the bench. He'll play, too. We've got to get that left-handed bat in the lineup." (Updated 05/07/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Cardenas was claimed off waivers from the A's during the offseason and could see time at both second and third base while in the majors. The former first-round pick still has some decent upside at age 24 so keep an eye on his progress. However, since he will not have a huge role with the Cubs while up in the majors, continue to ignore Cardenas in the majority of Fantasy formats. (Updated 05/07/2012).
