| Justin Maxwell ready for rehab assignment |

(5/24/13) Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell is expected to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday at extended spring training, MLB.com reports.
Maxwell suffered a broken hand April 23. He took 20 batting practice swings Friday and says he feels good. He's looking at an early June return.

(5/20/13) Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell (hand) took 15 swings off a tee Monday, MLB.com reports. Maxwell also took 30 soft-tosses and is no longer wearing a brace on his fractured left hand.
Maxwell is scheduled to have a routine X-ray taken Tuesday. He's hoping to return in late May or early June.

(5/15/13) Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell took swings with a fungo bat for the first time since sustaining a broken hand April 23, MLB.com reports.
Maxwell will likely be reevaluated shortly. He was initially expected to miss roughly four weeks, so he could be ready to go on a rehab assignment within a week or two.

(5/11/13) Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell, who is on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand, will not travel with the team for its upcoming road trip to Detroit and Pittsburgh next week, MLB.com reports.
Maxwell, who has been sidelined since April 24 with his injury, will stay in Houston to work out with a sports rehabilitation specialist, according to the report.

(5/7/13) Astros outfielder Justin Maxwell received positive news regarding the X-ray he underwent on his fractured left hand, the Houston Chronicle reports Tuesday.
Maxwell had the cast removed from his hand and could begin light work with the bat within 7-10 days, when he will be re-evaluated.

| Justin Maxwell saw his most extensive playing time in the majors in 2012 and posted career highs in almost every significant category. Maxwell was claimed off waivers from the Yankees last April and while he batted just .229, he hit 18 home runs with 53 RBI in 124 games with a respectable .460 slugging percentage. Maxwell hit lefties exceptionally well, posting a .505 slugging percentage against southpaws, but his deficiencies against righties caused him to platoon at times. The 29-year-old has some decent pop and is expected to compete for a starting job during the spring so keep an eye on how he does. Maxwell would be worth a look in some deeper Fantasy formats as a starter but if he continues to platoon, plan on leaving him for AL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 12/12/12) |
