The Mets seemed reluctant to give Murphy everyday at-bats in 2009, which is surprising considering all the players they lost due to injury. When he did play, he didn't play all that poorly. No, he didn't hit all the homers you'd expect from a first baseman, and he didn't hit .300 with the same high walk rate he posted in 2008. But he did hit 38 doubles, and he struck out only 69 times in 508 at-bats, showing a level of maturity that might help him develop faster than some of his peers. Let's not overlook the fact his OPS improved by more than 100 points in the second half. If the Mets continue to provide him with the at-bats he needs to make the most of his abilities, he could become a decent low-end performer in Fantasy, perhaps even a 20-homer guy. For now, though, he's probably just an NL-only option, especially since his role heading into the season remains unclear. (Updated 12/9/09)
