Royals' Paulo Orlando makes triples history Monday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(4/21/15) Royals right fielder Paulo Orlando went 1 for 3 with a triple, a walk and two RBI in Monday's 7-1 win over the Twins.
The triple was Orlando's fifth in his first seven games, setting a new major-league record for the fewest games to hit five triples to open a career, MLB.com reports. He said he knows pretty soon after making contact whether he has a chance at a triple.
"Usually when it gets over the infielder's head," he said. "… The whole game, I tried to pull everything. But the last pitcher, we got a report that he threw a little cutter, so I tried to think right side."
Orlando has an added chance at collecting base hits at home due to Kaufman Stadium's spacious gaps.
"It helps," manager Ned Yost said of the bigger ballpark. "But if you watch him fly around the bases, he's going to hit triples in any ballpark when he puts the ball in the gap."
Orlando has hit .269/.345/.654 in 26 at-bats.
Royals SS Alcides Escobar back in the lineup, Lorenzo Cain out
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(4/20/15) Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is back in the starting lineup Monday against the Twins after missing last two games with a knee injury, according to 610 Sports Radio in Kansas City.
Escobar took a hard slide from Brett Lawrie in Friday's game against the Athletics and was forced to leave the game, which led to multiple bean balls being thrown throughout the weekend series.
Outfielder Lorenzo Cain will get the day off Monday, with Paulo Orlando and Jarrod Dyson starting in center and right field. Cain is tearing the cover off the ball to start the year, hitting a blistering .413 with two home runs and 12 RBI in 46 at-bats.
The Royals are currently the favorites (-150) against the Twins.
Escobar sits out Saturday, Orlando takes Royals' leadoff spot
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(4/18/15) Royals shortstop and leadoff hitter Alcides Escobar was not listed in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Athletics, according to MLB.com.
Escobar sustained a mild strain and contusion to his left knee during Friday's win over Oakland. He suffered the injury when Oakland third baseman Brett Lawrie slid into him at second base while attempting to break up a double play in the seventh inning. Escobar is hitting .326 (14 for 43) with a .348 on-base percentage and five RBI in 10 games.
Right fielder Paulo Orlando took Escobar's spot at the top of the order. The 29-year-old Brazilian tripled in a run en route to Kansas City's 6-4 win over Oakland. He is hitting .313/.353/.813 with four triples over his first 17 career plate appearances.
