Preseason Outlook

Saunders entered last season as one of the top prospects in the Mariners organization and didn't disappoint in Triple-A, hitting .310 with a .922 OPS in 248 at-bats. Hurting for offense, the Mariners promoted him in late July, and that's when the disappointment came. Saunders hit .221 and went homerless in 122 at-bats, likely earning himself a ticket back to Triple-A to begin this season. You shouldn't lose hope for 23-year-old, though. He wouldn't be the first prospect to struggle in his debut only to thrive in his return a year or two later, and he's still awfully young. He's worth a pick in AL-only leagues just in case he breaks camp with the team, but a midseason arrival is more likely. (Updated 1/20/10)
