Reds recall pitchers Contreras, Hand; option OF Boesch to Triple-A
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(6/16/15) The Reds have recalled pitchers Carlos Contreras and Donovan Hand from Triple-A Louisville, and optioned outfielder Brennan Boesch to Triple-A, the team announced on Tuesday.
Contreras appeared in three games with the Reds earlier this season, allowing one earned run in 3 1/3 innings. With Triple-A, he owns a 4.66 ERA in 19 1/3 innings.
Hand hasn't thrown a big-league pitch since 2013. He has been pitching in Triple-A after signing a minor-league deal with the Reds in January. In 15 games, he owns a 4.50 ERA over 44 innings pitched.
Boesch has struggled this season in a part-time role with the Reds. In 56 at-bats, he's batting just .125 with one extra-base hit.
Reds CF Billy Hamilton sits, Brennan Boesch starts Tuesday
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(6/9/15) Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton is out of the starting lineup for Tuesday's tilt with the Phillies. Hamilton had started each of the last 13 games for the Reds, slashing .261/.292/.261 in 46 at-bats, with eight stolen bases over that stretch. He has hit safely in all but three of those 13 games.
Manager Bryan Price says Hamilton is bothered by hand and wrist discomfort, which could explain why he is being held out of the lineup.
Brennan Boesch will spell Hamilton in center field and bat eighth on Tuesday. Primarily a bench player this season, Boesch hasn't made a start in the outfield since May 24.

|(6/8/15) Despite dealing with back soreness, Reds outfielder Brennan Boesch will be available to play in Monday's game against the Phillies, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Boesch has not played since June 2 and he has not started a game since May 24. He will likely start one of the next two games when the team faces a right-handed pitcher.

|(5/24/15) Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton is not in the team's lineup for Sunday's game.
Hamilton suffered a shoulder and wrist injury while sliding, trying to steal a base on Saturday.
Brennan Boesch replaces Hamilton in center, starting there for the fourth time this season.
Reds' Jay Bruce gets an off day vs. Madison Bumgarner, Giants
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(5/15/15) Reds outfielder Jay Bruce was held out of the starting lineup against left-hander Madison Bumgarner and the Giants on Friday, per the team's official website. Kris Negron will bat eighth and play in right field in Bruce's absence.
"I've got to find my days for the other guys," manager Bryan Price said, per MLB.com. "I'm hoping to get [Brennan] Boesch in this series and give him a start. I have to pick my times for these guys. Sometimes if it's a tougher match-up, I will do that. It's nothing to read into anything other than a day off [for Bruce] against a tough lefty."
Bruce has shown some power, but is off to a slow start at the plate this season. He is hitting .162 (19 for 117) with a double, two triples, five homers and 16 RBI in 34 games. He is a .206 hitter this season against left-handed pitching.
Cincinnati is an underdog (+125) at home against the Giants, per VegasInsider.com.
