Fantasy Analysis
Constanza was a decent low-end option for Fantasy owners down the stretch in 2011 as he hit .303 over 42 games. Unfortunately, this year he wasn't seeing regular at-bats, so he will head down to the minors until Atlanta needs an outfielder. It's OK to leave Constanza on waivers in all Fantasy formats. 04/05/2012 16:43 Santana delivers for Mets in his return
Johan Santana pitched five innings of two-hit ball in his long-awaited return from shoulder surgery and David Wright hit an RBI single to lead the New York Mets past the Atlanta Braves 1-0 in their season opener Thursday.
The 2011 season may not have been that memorable for some baseball fans, but for Braves fans, it was the summer of Jose. The speedy Constanza, a career minor-leaguer who had gotten lost in the Indians system before joining the Braves in 2011, came up from the minors in late July and did the unthinkable: He unseated Jason Heyward, the budding superstar who spent much of last season in a sophomore slump. Granted, it didn't last long -- for most of September, Constanza was tucked safely away on the bench -- but during his time in the starting lineup, he made his presence known in Fantasy, hitting .400 with seven stolen bases from July 31 to Aug. 22. Constanza is ticketed for a reserve role to begin 2012, which means other than as a cheap source of stolen bases in NL-only Rotisserie leagues, he doesn't have much Fantasy appeal. But if an injury creates an opening during the season, he'll be an option to consider off the waiver wire. (Updated 1/25/12)
