Fowler returns with three hits: Colorado outfielder Dexter Fowler was able to get back to action on Wednesday night against Arizona after missing some time with blurred vision. Fowler didn't miss a beat as he went 3 for 3 in the win over the Diamondbacks. Fowler doubled and tripled in the game and drove in two runs. He also scored a run and is batting .242 on the year. Fantasy Analysis
Fowler recorded his first multi-hit game since notching three base hits back on April 27 against the Mets. Fowler needed a game like Wednesday's, but he needs to do it more consistently before Fantasy owners can really start trusting him again. Fowler remains more of an NL-only Fantasy option for now. To look at Dexter Fowler's first three full years as a major leaguer, aside from an uptick in doubles, there is little to suggest at first glance that he has developed much at all. However, 2011 may very well have been a breakout for the 25-year-old, but you have to look at his second-half splits to see it. Prior to the All-Star break, Fowler spent time on the disabled list with an abdominal injury, and during his minor league rehab stint and a subsequent demotion, he worked on his swing. He returned to the majors with dramatic results, hitting 22 doubles and 10 triples in just two-and-a-half months. An increased home run rate and a plunging pop-up rate spoke to Fowler hitting the ball with more authority. While he may not hit more than a dozen homers this year, Fowler's burgeoning doubles and triples power and strong on-base skills should make him a solid contributor in Head-to-Head leagues, though he is more a marginal choice for Rotisserie owners in standard mixed leagues.
