|Orioles' ALDS rotation taking shape |
|by Al Melchior | Data Analyst|
(12:11 pm ET) Orioles manager Buck Showalter told the Baltimore Sun he will use four starting pitchers for the American League Divisional Series. Chris Tillman is on course to be the team's starter for Game 1 on Oct. 2, and Miguel Gonzalez and Wei-Yin Chen are the likely starters for Games 2 and 3, though their order has yet to be determined.
Should the series advance to a Game 4, Bud Norris would be the leading candidate to make that start.

(9/22/14) The Orioles will start right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez at the Yankees on Tuesday, allowing them to stick to their plan of giving each of their starting pitchers an extra day of rest heading into the postseason.
"There's a fine line between not having enough rest and having too much rest, so we're trying to have every guy that pitches get one extra day before the start," manager Buck Showalter told the Baltimore Sun. “We're going to try to give everybody, so you're not too far away from the ball but you get a little extra rest. They all seem to respond well to that."
While left-hander Wei-Yin Chen will start Monday at the Yankees, right-hander Chris Tillman won't start again until Friday at Toronto. Miguel Gonzalez will start the team's final game Sunday at Toronto.
As of now, Bud Norris and Kevin Gausman are scheduled to start Wednesday's and Thursday's games at the Yankees, but that could change. Jimenez could end up making a second start before season's end.
|Miguel Gonzalez allows three runs in loss vs. Yankees |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(9/13/14) Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez took a loss Saturday, surrendering three earned runs on three hits and three walks in six innings while striking out one in his team's 3-2 defeat against the Yankees.
Gonzalez (9-8) had posted back-to-back scoreless outings to open September, and he now has six consecutive quality starts to his credit. He limited all the offense to the second inning, giving up a solo home run and an RBI single before a runner on third stole home in the inning. Gonzalez owns a 3.28 ERA and 102:49 K:BB ratio in 148 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Red Sox next Saturday.

(9/8/14) Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez dominated the Red Sox on Monday, scattering six hits over 6 1/3 scoreless frames to improve to 9-7 on the season. He struck out four and walked three in a 4-0 victory.
Gonzalez has not permitted a run over his last 15 1/3 innings of work. He owns a 3.22 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP over 142 1/3 innings of work. His next start will come Sunday at home against the Yankees.

(9/3/14) Orioles pitcher Miguel Gonzalez earned a complete-game shutout Wednesday, giving up four hits and one walk in nine innings while striking out eight in his team's 6-0 win over the Reds.
Gonzalez (8-7) threw 83 of his 117 pitches for strikes in the gem to pick up the first complete game and shutout of his career. It was also his fourth straight quality start as he maintains his hot streak into September. Gonzalez owns a 3.38 ERA and 97:43 K:BB ratio in 136 innings. He's scheduled to face the Red Sox Monday.
|Miguel Gonzalez finished 2013 with his typically efficient numbers -- a 3.78 ERA and 1.23 WHIP, with 120 strikeouts in 171 1/3 innings. It was his second straight season with a WHIP below 1.25, and his walk and strikeout rates remained, essentially, the same in 2012 and 2013. Gonzalez now holds a 3.58 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 43 major league starts. He's Mark Buehrle-esque, in terms of putting up nice numbers without overpowering strikeout totals, and there's a place for that in Fantasy -- a reliable rotation member who can be taken in the reserve rounds of Head-to-Head leagues and as a fifth or sixth starter in Roto formats.
