| Cubs outright Brent Lillibridge to Triple-A Iowa |

(4/19/13) Cubs utility player Brent Lillibridge has been outrighted to Triple-A Iowa, the club announced.
Lillibridge went just 1 for 24 before being designated for assignment earlier this week. He was forced into a starting role at second base thanks to injuries to Darwin Barney and Ian Stewart.

(4/16/13) The Cubs have designated infielder Brent Lillibridge for assignment.
The team added Cody Ransom through a waiver claim, and got Darwin Barney back from injury, so Lillibridge was expendable. Lillibridge played in nine games with the team this season.

(4/11/13) Cubs second baseman Brent Lillibridge entered play Thursday 0 for 17 this season but hit a two-out, two-run single in the third inning of Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Giants. The 1-for-3 day gives Lillibridge a .050/.050/.050 line in 20 plate appearances.

(3/30/13) With Darwin Barney suffering a gash to his knee, Cubs manager Dale Sveum is leaning toward utility infielder Brent Lillibridge to start Monday's season opener against the Pirates at second base.
Lillibridge made the team thanks to a hot spring, batting .333 with a .948 OPS. He has appeared in 60 games at second base in his career, including three starts last season for the Indians.
Lillibridge is expected to serve as a backup infielder once Barney returns.

| (3/13/13) Cubs infielder Brent Lillibridge had been sidelined due to a strained groin but was able to return for Wednesday's Cactus League game against the Rockies. He went 0 for 1 at the plate while playing second base in the 2-0 loss. Lillibridge is competing for a bench spot this spring.

| Brent Lillibridge played for three teams in 2012, hitting .250 with three home runs and 13 steals in 190 at-bats. While he shouldn't be a draft pick this season, it's worth keeping track of his situation, as Lillibridge has two straight seasons of 10 or more steals despite not cracking 200 at-bats either year. For a single-league team in need of a band-aid because of injury or demotion, Lillibridge is at least a decent source of speed as a short-term plug-in off the waiver wire. (Updated 1/4/13) |
