| Darren O'Day earns first save since 2009 |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (5/5/13) Orioles reliever Darren O'Day collected his first save since 2009 in Sunday's series finale against the Angels. He entered in the eighth inning with the bases loaded and two outs and stranded the runners. The right-hander came back out for the ninth and worked his way around a leadoff double to secure the 8-4 win.
O'Day also struck out one while lowering his ERA to 1.65.

| Darren O'Day thriving in setup role |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (4/25/13) Orioles reliever Darren O'Day has been stellar out of the bullpen through the first few weeks of the season. The right-handed reliever has a 0.79 ERA and 0.71 WHIP through 11 1/3 innings.
O'Day is also 2-0 with 10 strikeouts, four holds and a blown save. He has primarily been used in the eighth inning and setup situations.

| O'Day reaches agreement with O's |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (2/9/13) The Orioles and relief pitcher Darren O'Day agreed to a two-year, $5.8 million contract Saturday to avoid arbitration, MASNSports.com reports. The deal also includes a $4.25 million option for the 2015 season. "He's such a dependable performer and a real top quality relief pitcher," Baltimore vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said. "We thought that was worth exploring for the team."

| O'Day inks 2-year deal |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (2/9/13) The Orioles reached agreement with relief pitcher Darren O'Day on Saturday, reports MASNSports.com. The Orioles and O'Day avoided arbitration Saturday as the reliever signed a two-year contract for a guaranteed $5.8 million with an option for 2015.

| Darren O'Day sure looked like he was emerging as one of the game's top setup men when he compiled a 2.03 ERA in 2010, but a torn labrum in his hip derailed him the following year, making him an afterthought in the Rangers bullpen. The Orioles selected him off waivers last offseason with the intention of making him a vital part of theirs, and he rewarded them with a 2.28 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings in 69 appearances. He didn't get much attention for the performance, most likely because he's a soft-tossing side-armer, but if you play in a league deep enough that middle relievers are worth owning, you'd be crazy to ignore O'Day. Two of the last three seasons, he's been as good as it gets for a reliever not in line for saves. (Updated 1/9/13) |
