He is playing more often thanks to injuries, but Fantasy owners remain unmoved. He is still owned in just 2 percent of CBSSports.com leagues, as of Wednesday.

Schafer's long track record of failure at the major-league level cannot be undone by a solid 42 at-bat run, so I cannot blame Fantasy owners for not jumping on his bandwagon. He is stealing bases at a decent rate but is not providing much help otherwise.

The biggest hindrance to his Fantasy value is the simple fact that the Braves have not given him any opportunities to fail against left-handed pitchers. All but three of his at-bats on the season have come against lefties, and this is a smart strategy for Atlanta, given his established inability to hit southpaws.

The Braves are smart to put him in a platoon where he can succeed, but it is hard for Fantasy owners to justify a roster spot for a player who doesn't get into the lineup regularly.

I would take a look at Schafer in NL-only leagues, but have little confidence in him being able to help otherwise. 

Schafer entered the game mired in a 4-for-24 slump in his last 10 games (seven starts). He has three multi-hit games, which includes a season-high four hits April 10.

With Jason Heyward out, the Braves will likely turn to Schafer and Reed Johnson as a right-field platoon. A natural center fielder and left-handed batter, Schafer figures to see decent playing time as Johnson is limited by strong platoon splits.

Schafer shows no significant difference in production against either left-handed or right-handed pitchers; which is just a nicer way of saying he cannot hit anybody. The 26-year-old has a career .611 on-base plus slugging in 791 at bats. He is unlikely to be worth pursuing in any Fantasy formats, even while he gets some starts. 

Schafer has made one start through the first 18 games. He's batting .444 (4 for 9) with one double and two stolen bases in nine games.
