Fantasy Analysis
It is not yet known if or how Schafer's legal troubles will affect his ability to participate in spring training. Even if they have no impact, Schafer is mainly an option for owners in NL-only leagues, as he provides little power and doesn't hit for a high average either. (Updated 11/07/2011).
02/08/2012 04:32 2012 Fantasy outlooks: Houston Astros
To say the Houston Astros are rebuilding is an understatement, but they have more than a few surprises in the form of young talent. Michael Hurcomb breaks down the American League-bound franchise in his Fantasy team outlook.
Jordan Schafer started last season in the Braves system, but got the call to the majors in May after Nate McLouth went down with an injury. He would remain a regular in the starting lineup and batted .240 with seven RBI and 15 stolen bases in his first 52 games. He cracked a bone in his finger in late July and was placed on the DL. While on the shelf, Atlanta shipped him to Houston in the Michael Bourn deal and he made his Astros debut on Aug. 22. Schafer would hit .245 down the stretch but enters 2012 as the man to beat in center field for Houston. The 25-year-old has some decent speed and has showed he can hit for average in the minors. But his skills have not quite translated to the majors. While he should see everyday at-bats, target Schafer in NL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 1/9/12)
