Preseason Outlook

It was Ziegler's year to surprise in 2008, but it was Andrew Bailey's turn last season as Bailey's AL Rookie of the Year breakthrough relegated Ziegler to a setup role. He had been named the closer after Joey Devine required season-ending Tommy John surgery out of spring training. Bailey took the job over and isn't likely to give it back to the quirky-delivery reliever Ziegler, who gets by more on guts than raw stuff. Consider Ziegler a viable fall-back option if something happens to Bailey and Devine doesn't return well from reconstructive elbow surgery. (Updated 1/7/10)
