Diamondbacks' Brad Ziegler should be ready by Opening Day
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(2/19/15) Diamondbacks reliever Brad Ziegler doesn't look like he's going to miss any playing time rehabbing his injured knee.
Ziegler is recovering from September microfracture surgery on his knee. D-backs manager Chip Hale met with the media on Thursday and said he expected Ziegler to be ready by opening day.
Ziegler was 5-3 with one save and a 3.49 ERA in 68 games as the Diamondbacks' setup man last season.
D-Backs' Ziegler ahead of schedule, but opening day remains iffy
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(2/5/15) Diamondbacks reliever Brad Ziegler said his recovery from microfracture surgery in September is "going well," per MLB.com.
"Dr. [Michael] Lee told me that as far as the microfracture surgeries he's done, I'm further along at the point that I'm at than anyone else that he's been checking up on," Ziegler said. "So I guess that means ahead of schedule. Hopefully I'll be ready for opening day, but if not, barring a setback, it should be shortly after that."
Ziegler said he will not be ready to throw off a mound when spring training begins, but he is hopeful he will be able to participate in some drills.
"I'll do as many drills as I can early on, because with a new manager this year, our bunt plays are going to be different, our pickoff plays are going to be different, so I want to be out there so I'm not behind on that stuff," he said.

|(9/5/14) Diamondbacks reliever Brad Ziegler received a second opinion on his left knee Friday, and the team announced he will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair damage.
Ziegler is dealing with cartilage damage in the knee, and has decided to undergo surgery after trying to pitch through it since June. He has struggled in the second half of the season, posting a 6.62 ERA since the All-Star break, compared to a 3.49 mark overall.
Ziegler is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next season, but will not pitch again this season.
