Preseason Outlook

Injuries forced the 22-year-old Parra to the majors perhaps a little sooner than the Diamondbacks would have preferred, but he never went back down to the minors, and he certainly didn't embarrass himself. At times, he even looked like a viable mixed-league option, like when he hit .314 from Aug. 1 on. He'll have to begin this season in a reserve role, but he could become a starter again if Chris Young continues to struggle or if Conor Jackson flounders after his bout with valley fever last year. In time, he projects as sort of a Shane Victorino type, offering above-average speed and enough power to hit a dozen homers or so, so he's worth a flier in NL-only leagues. Mixed-league owners shouldn't bother with the part-timer, though. (Updated 1/19/10)
