by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (4/9/13) The Padres signed first baseman Brandon Allen to a minor-league contract Tuesday, according to MLB.com. Allen was released by the Rangers April 1.
Allen's major-league slash line in 116 games is .203/.290/.375/.665.

Allen, who joined Texas on a minor-league deal in the offseason, was one of the team's first roster cuts this spring after hitting just .194 in Cactus League play.

Rays activate Keppinger, put Allen on DL
The Tampa Bay Rays have activated infielder Jeff Keppinger from the restricted list and put first baseman-outfielder Brandon Allen on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right quadriceps.
