| Chris Perez won't return Friday |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (6/19/13) Indians closer Chris Perez (shoulder) will not be activated off the disabled list Friday against the Twins as originally planned, according to WTAM 1100. Perez had a disastrous rehab outing for Double-A Akron Tuesday, allowing three home runs and five runs in one inning.
His mechanics aren't in order, so Perez will long toss Wednesday and be re-evaluated after throwing a bullpen session Friday.

| Chris Perez hit hard during Double-A rehab |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/18/13) Indians closer Chris Perez began his rehab assignment with Double-A Akron Tuesday, as expected, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Perez pitched one inning and allowed three home runs en route to giving up five runs on five hits and a hit batter. He had two strikeouts in the wild performance. Perez threw a scoreless inning for Class A Lake County Sunday. He allowed two hits and struck out one.

| Vinnie Pestano no threat to Chris Perez |
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer (6/18/13) When Chris Perez went on the DL with a strained rotator cuff May 27, many Fantasy owners rushed to pick up his replacement, Vinnie Pestano, wondering if he could turn this short-term opportunity into a long-term role.
Three weeks later, Perez is on the verge of returning, and Pestano still has just one save to his name. We'll never know what might have been if Pestano had pulled an Andrew Bailey, piling up half a dozen saves as a stand-in. The Indians didn't win enough to see what he could do in the role, so you have to assume they'll revert to what made him comfortable in the first place.
Come Friday, Perez will be back to closing for the Indians, and Pestano will be no more than waiver fodder in Fantasy.

| Chris Perez expects to be back by Friday |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (6/17/13) Indians closer Chris Perez (shoulder) told reporters Monday he will move his rehab assignment to Double-A Akron Tuesday. He expects to be activated off the 15-day disabled list by Friday's game against the Twins.
Perez threw a scoreless inning for Class A Lake County Sunday. He allowed two hits and struck out one.

| Chris Perez starts rehab assignment |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/16/13) Indians closer Chris Perez (strained rotator cuff) began a rehab assignment with a start for Class A Lake County Sunday against Great Lakes.
Perez pitched the first inning and struck out a batter, allowing two base hits. Perez has a 4.32 ERA over 16 2/3 innings this season for the Indians. No word was given as to how many rehab outings Perez will need.

| When he wasn't calling out fans and management on Twitter in 2012, Chris Perez put together an impressive campaign as closer for Cleveland. He struck out a batter per inning and registered 39 saves in 61 games, his second straight 35-plus save season. The 36 saves were good enough for sixth-most in baseball. At 27 years old, Perez is hitting his prime in 2013 and shows no sign of slowing down. In fact, of the top 10 saves leaders in 2012, Perez is the third-youngest (behind Craig Kimbrel and Aroldis Chapman). This actually worked against Perez, as his age and success have made him a walking trade rumor -- throughout 2012 and into the offseason. No matter where he lands, as long as Perez closes, he'll continue to be one of the more underappreciated closers in the game. He's not flashy, but he's durable, he has the skill and he's good for at least 35 saves per season. He'll probably be drafted in the mid-to-later rounds of most drafts. (Updated 12/5/12) |
