Orioles activate 1B Steve Pearce, place SS J.J. Hardy on DL
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(8/24/15) The Orioles have activated first baseman Steve Pearce from the disabled list and recalled right-hander Jorge Rondon from Triple-A Norfolk.
To create room for those players, they have placed shortstop J.J. Hardy on the disabled list with a groin injury and designated for assignment veteran outfielder Nolan Reimold.
Hardy has been plagued by the groin ailment for a while. He is batting .157 (11-for-70) in August.
Orioles' Steve Pearce (oblique) could return from DL on Monday

|(8/21/15) Orioles infielder/outfielder Steve Pearce appears to be nearing a return from the disabled list. Pearce, who is out with an oblique injury, is set to move his current rehab assignment to Double-A Bowie this weekend. Pearce could then rejoin the Orioles on Monday when they start a series in Kansas City.
"It's in play," manager Buck Showalter said, per MLB.com. "I'll see how tomorrow goes [and] see how Sunday goes."
Pearce has been on the disabled list since mid-July. He has played in two rehab games with the Orioles' Gulf Coast League team, going 2 for 7 with a double and a walk.

Report: Orioles 1B Steve Pearce OK after HBP in rehab
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(8/19/15) Orioles rehabbing first baseman Steve Pearce took three at-bats Wednesday while rehabbing his ailing oblique. All was well until he got hit in the back by a pitch, according to the Baltimore Sun, which assures that he's fine.
Pearce has been sidelined for a month and recently suffered a setback in his recovery. It remains to be seen when he can begin a minor league rehab assignment and rejoin the Orioles.
O's Mike Wright, Steve Pearce take next step in rehab process
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(8/17/15) Orioles pitcher Mike Wright was able to throw off a half-mound on Monday, reports MLB.com. Wright has not pitched since July 31 due to a calf injury. He will throw off a regular mound on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, second baseman Steve Pearce has been able to take some soft toss and hit off a tee. An oblique injury has kept him out since July 18.
|2014 summary: As a journeyman who never amassed as many as 200 plate appearances in any of his seven previous major league seasons, Steve Pearce finally found steady work in a surprisingly productive 2014 season. Pearce's own strong hitting, along with mounting injuries in the Orioles' lineup, provided an opportunity for playing time, and he seized it. Pearce hit .293 with 21 home runs, 49 RBI and 51 runs in 338 at-bats, and he finished strong, even though he missed time over the final month with abdominal and wrist injuries.
Playing time status: Pearce has likely played his way into a regular role, but he could face competition for first base or an outfield spot, depending on how the rest of the roster pans out. He also has a history of being injury-prone, so even with a clear path to a starting role, owners shouldn't count on Pearce to play 155 games or more.
2015 outlook: Though playing time could be in question for Pearce, his power potential makes him worth targeting in standard mixed leagues. Unless there are signs that he will be relegated to a part-time role, which seem very unlikely now, Pearce is worthy of the investment of a pick in the middle rounds.
