Max Scherzer strikes out seven in 10th win Thursday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(7/3/14) Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer picked up his 10th win Thursday, giving up one earned run on just two hits and one walk in eight innings and striking out seven in his team's 8-1 victory over the Rays.

Scherzer (10-3) gave up a double to lead off the game, issued a one-out walk and saw a run score on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. He would allow just one more baserunner for the remainder of the game, retiring the final 13 batters he faced. Scherzer has strung together three brilliant starts, posting a 28:4 K:BB ratio in 21 innings over that stretch while surrendering just four earned runs. His final start before the break is scheduled for Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Max Scherzer strikes out 13 vs. Astros Saturday
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(6/28/14) Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer didn't factor in Saturday's decision, giving up just two earned runs on seven hits and one walk in seven innings and recording a season-high 13 strikeouts in his team's 4-3 win against the Astros.

Scherzer gave up a two-run single in the bottom of the first inning but blanked the Astros over the remainder of the game. However, his offense only provided one run of support before Scherzer departed, though they did take the lead in the ninth to prevent him from taking a loss. Scherzer owns a 3.64 ERA and 132:32 K:BB ratio in 111 1/3 innings. He's scheduled to face the Rays Thursday.

Max Scherzer bounces back to record ninth win
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(6/22/14) Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer bounced back from his worst start of the season to lead Detroit to a 10-4 win Sunday at Cleveland. The right-handed hurler allowed one run on six hits and two walks, while striking out eight in six innings.

After giving up 10 runs in his previous start Tuesday, Scherzer gave up his only run Sunday on a two-out RBI double to Michael Brantley in the bottom of the fifth inning. By then, however, he was pitching with a 9-0 lead after Detroit plated seven runs in the top of the fifth.

He now has wins in three of his last four starts and has at least seven strikeouts in four of his last five starts. Scherzer will be back on the hill Saturday at Houston.
