(9/13/14) Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick looked sharp in a win over the Marlins at home on Saturday, improving to 9-12 on the year. He allowed one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out six over 6 1/3 innings of a 2-1 victory.
A solo home run to Garrett Jones in the second inning proved to be his only blemish of the night. Of his 84 pitches, 56 were strikes. Kendrick owns a 4.72 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP over
30 starts (187 innings). His next start will come Thursday at San Diego.

|Justin Upton indicates belief that Kyle Kendrick throwing at him |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(9/3/14) Braves slugger Justin Upton has grown a bit suspicious of Phillies right-hander Kyle Kendrick, whose pitch Tuesday night was responsible for a bruised left triceps and absence from the Wednesday lineup.
"You saw him for seven innings, he didn't miss his spots," Upton told MLB.com. "That's the second time he's hit me in that same exact spot. I guess he only misses his spots against me."
Upton has been hit by a pitch five times this season. The last three were hurled by Kendrick.
|Kyle Kendrick tosses seven scoreless innings Tuesday |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(9/2/14) Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick picked up a win Tuesday, giving up just three hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings while striking out four in his team's 4-0 victory over the Braves.
Kendrick (8-11) has picked up three straight wins, though Tuesday's gem was his first quality start since Aug. 5 and his first scoreless outing since May 26. He owns a 4.77 ERA and 103:48 K:BB ratio in 173 2/3 innings. Kendrick is scheduled to face the Pirates Monday.
|The 2013 season marked the first time since Kyle Kendrick's rookie season in 2007 he didn't make one relief appearance. Kendrick has been a valuable asset for the Phillies throughout his career, being able to bounce between the rotation and bullpen with ease. He made a career-high 19 relief appearances in 2011 and 12 relief outings in 2012. But last season Kendrick was locked into a rotation spot, largely because John Lannan and Roy Halladay struggled to stay healthy. Early on, however, Kendrick was one of the Phillies' best pitchers. He went 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA in his first eight starts. But the good times wouldn't last. Kendrick began to pitch more like we are accustomed to seeing from him as a starter, going 6-12 with a 5.65 ERA in his final 22 starts before he was shut down in late September due to shoulder tendinitis. Kendrick did win 10 games for a second straight year and for the fifth time in seven seasons. Outside of his potential for wins, Kendrick isn't a good strikeout pitcher and his ERA and WHIP are usually nothing to write home about. Leave him for deep leagues Draft Day.
