Preseason Outlook

After a mediocre first full season as a starting pitcher, the Yankees are left to the debate yet again: Is Joba better suited to be a shutdown setup man or a hot-and-cold No. 5 starter? The latter gives him far more Fantasy potential and will be the one that gets him drafted in the latter rounds of mixed leagues at this point. He has top 25 potential, but he needs to prove more consistent and be less under wraps as a starter. The Yankees have coddled him and watched his innings from Day 1. Consider Chamberlain a breakout third-year starting pitcher candidate, but only if the Yankees don't go back on their word of keeping him a starting pitcher long term. (Updated 1/13/10)
