Preseason Outlook

If not for the sky-high expectations, some might have considered Price's rookie season (only his second year as a pro) a successful one. Instead it is classified as a disappointment for Fantasy owners. The lefty struggled with his command and looked far less dominant than he did in his first pro season in 2008. Easily overlooked is the fact that he won 10 games last season, though. After a rough July (6.94 ERA, .316 batting-average against), Price was much closer to what we expected in August (3.73-.238) and September (4.50-.225). Price won't be drafted as high this spring, which is justified. Hype got him picked far too early anyway. But he remains one of the top 50 Fantasy starting pitchers to target on Draft Day. His talent could lead to a huge breakthrough in Year 2. We tend to like players in the overlooked sophomore category. (Updated 1/11/10)
