Preseason Outlook

After generating a little bit of buzz -- at least for a Nationals pitcher -- as a rookie in 2008, Balester took a step back last year. He didn't make the club out of spring training and then struggled in Triple-A. And even though the Nationals did eventually give him a look in the majors, he struggled to the tune of a 6.82 ERA in seven starts. At the young age of 23, he still has a chance to get his act together and become a respectable middle-of-the-rotation guy, but he's a long shot for the starting rotation this spring.
