Preseason Outlook

The move from shortstop to third base seemed to reactivate Young's power gene. After settling in as a contact hitter over the last few years, he returned to the 20-homer plateau for the first time since 2005, producing a career-high .518 slugging percentage. And that's even though he played only 135 games -- his fewest since 2001 -- because of a strained hamstring that sidelined him for 22 of the last 23 games. So just because he lost eligibility at perhaps the weakest position in Fantasy doesn't mean he lost all of his value. He might have actually gained some now that you can trust him to hit a few homers again. Don't forget about Young in the middle rounds if you miss out on the elite options early. If he can just repeat last year's numbers, you'll have a bargain, and if he can't, you'll at least have a .300 batting average. He has delivered one six of the last seven years. (Updated 12/18/09)
