Pierre's average taking a hit: Philadelphia outfielder Juan Pierre went 0 for 3 with an RBI during the Phillies' 5-1 loss to Boston in an interleague contest on Sunday. It was Pierre's third straight hitless outing to drop his batting average to .319 on the season. His sacrifice fly in the eighth marked just his seventh RBI of the year. (Updated 05/20/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Pierre seems to have hit a minor rough patch as he has managed just four hits over his past seven games, which includes six starts, to chop his batting average down from .351 last Sunday. Now 34, the speedy veteran hasn't been as active on the base paths as previous years and tallied just six steals in eight attempts. But he remains a quality contact hitter and is worth utilizing in NL-only Fantasy formats for now. (Updated 05/20/2012).

As interleague play gets under way there are many matchups to break down. Our Scott White tells you who the best bets and biggest risks are in his Hit Parade for Week 7.
For the last decade, Fantasy owners have been willing to overlook Juan Pierre's obvious shortcomings, knowing that his 60-steal potential would prevent him from slipping too much in the outfielder rankings as long as he didn't lose a step. Well, it finally happened in 2011. One year after leading the majors with 68 steals, Pierre slipped to a career-low 27 despite recording only 12 fewer at-bats. And the problem wasn't a reluctant manager. Pierre was caught stealing an MLB-high 17 times. Nope, he simply discovered that, at age 34, he wasn't quite as fast as he used to be, and eventually, he stopped being so aggressive on the base paths. Unfortunately, he didn't have any other skill to fall back on. He wasn't much of an on-base threat, and he still had zero power. As you might expect, he slipped a ways in the Fantasy rankings, averaging fewer Head-to-Head points per game than Nolan Reimold. As you also might expect, he had trouble finding a job this offseason. Not much of a market for a slap-hitting, poor-fielding ex-speedster. After signing a minor-league deal with the Phillies, Pierre's best hope for remaining in the majors is as a bench player. In such a role, he might still contribute enough steals to factor in deeper Rotisserie leagues, but he likely won't get enough at-bats to matter in standard Fantasy formats. (Updated 1/27/12)
