Frieri settling into setup role: Angels reliever Ernesto Frieri has tossed 4 2/3 hitless innings since joining Los Angeles. He's walked three and struck out 10 over that span. "I think all [the reports] were right on the money with him, about the deception in his delivery, the live arm," manager Mike Scioscia told MLB.com on Friday. "He's going to continue to be a major part of our 'pen, because you've seen some things stabilize as he's starting to pitch a little better, with [closer Scott] Downs and now with Jordan Walden throwing the ball like he can. You're starting to see our bullpen develop." (Updated 05/19/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Frieri has stepped up and gives the Halos a strong arm for late in games as the bullpen has been depleted this season. "Although I had never done it with the Padres, that's the role for me," said Frieri, who has basically been used as a setup man. "As a Latin [playing in the pressure-filled Winter Leagues], I'm used to pitching in those tough spots. San Diego didn't give me that opportunity, because I really didn't deserve it right away and they had too much talent here [in the bullpen]. And I understand that. But I feel comfortable in that role and I never put any added pressure on myself. I'm always the same guy." Fantasy owners should view Frieri as a low-end relief pitching option, best left for leagues that reward holds. (Updated 05/19/2012).
