| Rockies have faith in Wilton Lopez |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (4/16/13) Rockies reliever Wilton Lopez entered Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets with a 10.13 ERA in six appearances.
The right-hander threw a scoreless inning Sunday and told MLB.com that he expects to get better. Manager Walt Weiss added he believes Lopez has had some bad luck and should get on track sooner rather than later.
"Every time I get in, I have confidence, like [Sunday]," said Lopez, who struck out two. "I thank God that things happened the way I was looking for them to happen.
"I know everybody has confidence in me. I feel that. The only thing I want to do is do the job. I'm focused on what I need to work on. I've been watching video and seeing things, and I'm staying positive. It's not a big deal, what happened the first few outings. It's something that happens to everybody."

| Lopez says elbow is fine |
| (2/14/13) Rockies reliever Wilton Lopez, acquired by the Rockies from the Astros this offseason, says he doesn't know what happened over the winter that made the Phillies back off on a trade with the Astros, claiming they had concerns about an elbow injury. "I don't know what happened with Philadelphia," Lopez told the Denver Post. "I was a little confused by what they said. But the Rockies checked me out and I was just fine. My elbow doesn't hurt."

| Lopez avoids arbitration |
| (1/16/13) The Rockies and reliever Wilton Lopez agreed to a one-year, $1.76 million contract on Wednesday to avoid arbitration. Lopez, who was acquired from the Astros in December, posted a 2.17 ERA in 64 appearances last season and converted 10 of 13 save chances.
|
| Wilton Lopez finished out last season as the Astros' closer, and his 10 saves put a cap on a good season in which he compiled career lows in ERA (2.17) and WHIP (1.04). In December, Lopez was dealt to the Rockies, which puts a double whammy on his Fantasy value. Not only will Lopez pitch his home games at notoriously hitter-friendly Coors Field, but he moves back into a setup role, losing his opportunity to pile up saves. Lopez is a good ground ball pitcher, so perhaps he can still amass a useful ERA and WHIP. Despite the move, he should at least be a solid option in holds leagues. (Updated 1/10/13) |
