| Easier approach helping Henry Rodriguez |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/26/13) After dealing with the stress related to the high-profile position of closer for the first month of last season, Nationals pitcher Henry Rodriguez is enjoying a calmer role this year. And the results have been glowing for the hard-throwing righty.
Now fully recovered from elbow surgery he had last August, Rodriguez has held an opponent scoreless in six of his eight appearances this season for a 3.24 ERA. He has also struck out two batters in each of his two games despite his velocity being down from last season.
"It's not that I don't care, it's that I worry less and don’t focus so intently on the job. Just letting it flow," he told The Washington Post. "You always want to do well and you want to give your best. I want to do well. Maybe I used to push and stress myself more. Now I can do well without doing that."

| Nationals still want Henry Rodriguez to pitch in |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/13/13) Despite making just three appearances this season, Nationals pitcher Henry Rodriguez remains a key part of the bullpen, manager Davey Johnson said Saturday. Rodriguez had elbow surgery last August and was limited by forearm tightness during the spring, prompting Johnson to use him sparingly.
"He said he felt good [Friday] in his shoulder and elbow," Johnson told MLB.com. "But he constantly gets treatment. We want to make sure he's feeling good. But knowing that and knowing Henry, he wouldn't say anything if his arm's falling off. I've talked to him and said, 'Hang in there. I've still got a lot of confidence in you.'"

| Henry Rodriguez makes season debut |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (4/4/13) Nationals reliever Henry Rodriguez made his first appearance of the season in Thursday's series finale against the Marlins.
Rodriguez entered the game in the seventh inning for Jordan Zimmerman and only needed 12 pitches to retire the side. He struck out one and gave the Nationals a perfect inning to help seal a 6-1 victory. Manager Davey Johnson plans on using the 26-year-old as a long reliever as long as he remains on the roster.
"That's going to be his role, setting up, late-inning relief," Johnson told MLB.com. "If he's on the ballclub, I'm using him. And he threw the ball good. One-two-three, can't beat that."

| Henry Rodriguez makes opening day roster |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (3/29/13) The Washington Post reported Friday Nationals reliever Henry Rodriguez will begin the season in the bullpen, despite dealing with some soreness in his throwing elbow during the spring.
The Nationals experimented with Rodriguez as a closer last season, but his struggles with wildness and injury ultimately cost him the job. He will begin the season in middle relief, after posting a 4.15 ERA with seven strikeouts and 10 walks in 8 2/3 innings in the spring.

Rodriguez has a 4.70 ERA in nine appearances this spring with eight strikeouts and nine walks in 8 2/3 innings.
