| Pedro Strop looks good in return to mound |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/9/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop came off the disabled list Saturday and was immediately put into the ballgame at Tampa Bay. Strop gave up a hit in a scoreless inning and had two strikeouts now that he's back from his back injury. Manager Buck Showalter said it was good to see, MLB.com reports.
"There’s a lot of things you work on, and when they’re healthy to do it, and if he can just repeat it. Sometimes the emotions get in the way of the mechanics," Showalter said. "It was a good first step for him. I know he felt good about it. Was a positive out of the game yesterday. It’s not like Pete hasn’t pitched any good innings out of the bullpen for us this year, it’s just he hasn’t been as consistent as he was last year. That’s a good start. We will see where it takes us."

| Pedro Strop back in Baltimore bullpen |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/8/13) The Orioles activated Pedro Strop off the disabled list and placed him back in the bullpen, MLB.com reports. Strop was out with a back injury.
The reliever is 0-2 this season with an ugly 6.11 ERA over 22 appearances. He went 5-2 with a 2.44 ERA last year over 70 appearances.

| Pedro Strop could be activated Saturday |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (6/7/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop threw an indoor bullpen session Friday at the team's spring training complex, and appears nearly ready to return from a back injury.
Manager Buck Showalter told MASNSports.com the team is considering activating Strop from the disabled list Saturday against the Rays, the first day he is eligible.

| Pedro Strop on track for Saturday |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (6/6/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop (back) continues to make progress, as he threw 25 pitches in a simulated inning Thursday in Sarasota. Strop is on track to be activated from the disabled list prior to Saturday's game against the Rays at Tropicana Field, according to the Baltimore Sun.

| Pedro Strop throws in simulated game |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (6/4/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop completed a 20-pitch simulated game Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Strop said it went well.
He plans to fly to Sarasota Wednesday to throw in extended spring training. He'll throw an inning Thursday and will then meet with the team Friday in Tampa Bay.
Strop is eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday. He's hoping it comes either Saturday or Sunday as he is no longer having lower-back issues.

| Pedro Strop was one of the successes of the Orioles' surprising bullpen last season, but his final 2.44 ERA and 1.34 WHIP, good as they were, don't tell the whole story. On Aug. 17, after having served as the team's primary setup man virtually all season, Strop had a 1.20 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 51 appearances. If those numbers had held, he'd be one of those rare middle relievers worth targeting in mixed-league drafts. He's still a pretty good one, but because he ran out of gas over his final 19 appearances, posting a 7.24 ERA and 2.34 WHIP, he's not worth considering outside of AL-only formats. He would likely be the choice to close for the Orioles if something happened to Jim Johnson, so Johnson owners especially should make a play for Strop late in AL-only Rotisserie drafts.
