Pedro Strop recovers from rough start
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(5/13/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop continues to get further away from his slow start. Strop fired a 10th straight scoreless outing Sunday against the Twins, lowering his ERA from 11.81 to 4.50 during that stretch.

"I've been working and getting my feeling back," Strop said, per MASNsports.com. "Mechanically-wise, I try to stay closed as much as I can. It's been getting me to the position where I want to be."

Strop said he has sought out advice from pitching coach Rick Adair and closer Jim Johnson.

"I've been getting help from coaches, my teammates," he said. "Jim Johnson's been helping me a lot, because he's pretty much a sinker pitcher. Sometimes, it's not that easy getting those pitches where you want them. It's all about rhythm and location."

WBC to blame for Pedro Strop's struggles?
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(5/7/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop has had an ugly season thus far for Baltimore and some are blaming the World Baseball Classic for his struggles, MASNSports.com reports. Strop won't completely rule out the WBC as a contributing factor.

Strop pitched six times over a 13-day span in the WBC for Team Dominican Republic. He went 6 2/3 scoreless innings and gave up just three hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.

Over 11 innings with the Orioles thus far, Strop has allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- on nine hits with nine walks and 11 Ks for an ERA of 5.73 and a WHIP of 1.64.

"I don't know because it was my first WBC and I don't have any other experience with it," Strop explained. "But I felt real good pitching then. I don't know what to tell you about it. If you go in the WBC and pitch a lot and come to your team and feel a little sore or something, you can look at that. But I don't feel anything wrong with my arm. My arm feels good. Maybe the high intensity of the games and you go back to lower intensity in spring training, maybe it changed something with mechanics. I'm not saying that is what happened, but maybe. Who knows?"

Strop has actually been improved of late with one run allowed over his last 5 2/3 innings spanning seven appearances. That said, he's still walked six over that span.

Pedro Strop's short-term role could change
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4/29/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop could be used differently in the short-term, MLB.com reported Monday. Manager Buck Showalter said Strop is emotional at the moment, but healthy.

Showalter also said his stuff is there and he just needs to worry about the results.

Strop took the loss on Sunday in Oakland and has only recorded one out in his last two appearances for the Orioles. His ERA is up to 7.88 and he's already blown two saves.

Pedro Strop regaining his confidence
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(4/24/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop was called on in a tight spot Tuesday against the Blue Jays, asked to pitch the eighth inning in a 4-3 game. After a rough start to the season, Strop came through by throwing a scoreless frame and securing his second hold.

Strop has tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his last two outings after opening the year with an 11.81 ERA through his first seven appearances. He's lowered his ERA to 8.22.

"That was huge because that was the game right there," Strop said, per The Baltimore Sun. "I’ve been struggling lately and that’s good to have some confidence back, and I feel even better because I gave my team the opportunity to win. Who knows? We might be playing still. But I feel pretty good. Like I said before, all those innings that I pitched before, I felt good. … The result was just wasn’t the one we wanted."

Pedro Strop off to a rocky start
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com
(4/17/13) Orioles reliever Pedro Strop, who starred for Team Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, has gotten off to a rocky start for Baltimore, MASNSports.com reports. Manager Buck Showalter fielded questions regarding his start to the year Wednesday.

"This guy had a really, really good year for us last year, with a little bump," Showalter said. "What I liked was the way he came back and was a contributor again. He got some big outs in the playoffs and leading up to the last week. I like him."

The 27-year-old Strop, who was converted to a pitcher from a shortstop just three years ago, got the final two outs of his first inning of work Tuesday against Tampa Bay with little issue. He came back out for another inning and couldn't retire a batter.

Strop allowed a leadoff homer to Kelly Johnson, walked a batter and then gave up a two-run shot to Evan Longoria before being pulled. His ERA is at 10.80, but he's been clean in four of his six outings.
