|Evan Meek saving games in the minors |
|by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(4/23/13) Former Rule 5 pick Evan Meek got four saves for the Pirates in 2010. It was the best year of his career -- an All-Star selection, Meek had a 2.14 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 70 strikeouts in 80 innings. Things were looking up for the six-foot righty.
Three years later, though, Meek is in the Rangers' system, pitching in the hitter-friendly PCL. Through six games, Meek has a 5.06 ERA and 2.06 WHIP. But he does have three saves as the team's closer. Although the Rangers have a handful of arms ahead of Meek for saves on the roster (Joe Nathan, Joe Ortiz, eventually Joakim Soria), if he can get his ratios down and keep that 9.0 K/9, Meek could be called up and serve as a middle reliever. He doesn't have much Fantasy value, but he's 30 and could find his way back to the majors this season.
|Rangers give Meek a look |
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(12/6/12) The Rangers signed right-hander Evan Meek to a minor-league deal Thursday. Meek, who was an All-Star setup man for the Pirates in 2010, made only 12 appearances last season. He had a 6.75 ERA.
