Fantasy Analysis
This is certainly an opportune time for Coghlan to re-emerge on the MLB level since his career has spiraled out of control since winning NL rookie of the year honors in 2009. Unfortunately, Coghlan will have to prove himself before he becomes a reliable Fantasy option again. He has marginal appeal in NL-only leagues to begin with. (Updated 05/20/2012).
04/08/2012 16:18 Reds score twice in ninth to drop Marlins
Scott Rolen drove in the winning run in the ninth inning with a sharp infield single that third baseman Hanley Ramirez failed to handle, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a come-from-behind 6-5 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday.
04/05/2012 19:08 Cueto, Reds shut out Marlins
Jay Bruce homered and drove in a pair of runs, and Johnny Cueto dominated in his first opening-day start, leading the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-0 victory over the Miami Marlins on Thursday before one of their biggest crowds.
Chris Coghlan has fallen a long way since winning NL Rookie of the Year in 2009, disappointing Fantasy owners with poor offensive numbers and a wide assortment of injuries in the two years since. Last year, his season appeared doomed before it even began. He was already coming off knee surgery when he developed shoulder inflammation that sidelined him for much of spring training. Then, his knee began bothering him again in mid-June, forcing him to the DL, and just when he looked like he was ready to return, he hyperextended his right elbow, effectively ending his season. Lost in all the injuries was the fact that the Marlins had intended to demote him in June before putting him on the, indicating that they're about ready to turn the page on the 26-year-old. With the emergence of Emilio Bonifacio last season and the addition of Jose Reyes in the offseason, Coghlan has no place to play, which means he's confined to a bench role for now. He still has enough offensive potential to make a relevant Fantasy contribution, but without the opportunity, he's strictly an NL-only option. (Updated 1/25/12)
