Fantasy Analysis
If healthy, Conger likely would have been recalled from the minors as the Angels scramble for options to take the place of catcher Chris Iannetta, who went down with a wrist injury. Conger could still see time with Los Angeles after he recovers as Iannetta is expected to miss six to eight weeks. The 24-year-old is hitting .357 with 11 runs scored for Salt Lake this season. Consider him a marginal option in AL-only Fantasy formats. (Updated 05/11/2012).
10/25/2011 17:39 Desert Report: Storylines are starting to take shape
The Arizona Fall League is nearing its halfway point and some interesting storylines have started to develop, and our Al Melchior expects to see even more in his weekly Desert Report.
Hank Conger continued to underwhelm as a major-leaguer again in 2011. He broke camp with the big club but could not grab hold of the starting job behind the plate and batted .300 with a .500 slugging percentage over his first 18 games. But after that he struggled to hit and ended the year with a .209 average. While he finished with six homers and 19 RBI in 177 at-bats, he spent the end of July/beginning of August in the minors and will have to fight for playing time again in 2012. With the addition of Chris Iannetta to the Angels, Conger will likely only catch a couple times per week and might need some more seasoning in the minors at age 23. He is still considered the future backstop in Los Angeles, but until he starts proving his worth on the field, plan on leaving Conger for AL-only formats on Draft Day. He remains a viable option in long-term keeper leagues, though. (Updated 1/11/12)
