| Hank Conger hits first homer |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/27/13) Angels catcher Hank Conger homered Friday night in Seattle during a 6-3 win. It was Conger's first home run of the season.
Conger took starter Aaron Harang 393-feet on a two-run homer to right field in the second inning. He finished the game 1 for 4.
Conger has just two hits over his last five appearances spanning 14 at-bats. Both hits went for extra bases. But he has just three RBI in 22 at-bats.

| Hank Conger having trouble defensively |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (3/18/13) Hank Conger has fared well with the bat so far this spring, hitting .417 with a .750 slugging percentage through 11 Cactus League games, but his defensive struggles prompted the Angels to sign Chris Snyder on Monday. Snyder will compete for the backup duties at catcher behind Chris Iannetta, a job that Conger seemed primed for earlier in camp.
Conger has had a hard time throwing runners out this spring.
"It's frustrating because I feel like I'm doing everything else well as far as receiving, blocking balls, getting on the same page with the pitchers, hitting," Conger told The Los Angeles Times. "But I know I can't hide this. It's going to get magnified. That's the nature of the game. I have to get past it."

| Conger crushes M's |
| (2/25/13) Angels catcher Hank Conger boasted his case for winning the backup job this spring on Monday against the Mariners. He went 3 for 3 with a homer, five RBI and two runs scored. Conger launched a three-run shot off Jeremy Bonderman in his first at-bat before doubling his next time up. Then in the fifth inning, he singled home two more runs.

| Conger vying for backup C gig |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (2/17/13) Angels catcher Hank Conger heads into spring training looking to win the backup catcher job behind Chris Iannetta, reports MLB.com Sunday. Conger has wanted to establish himself as a major league starter, but that won't happen for the 25-year-old after Iannetta signed an extension in the offseason. "He earned it," Conger said. "For me, whether they sign him or anybody else or they didn't, I still have to go in trying to get better and try to prove better, because in this game, nothing's handed to you."

Hamilton, Conger homer as Angels shut out Royals
Josh Hamilton and Hank Conger homered to back Billy Buckner's first major league win since 2009, and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 7-0 on Saturday for their seventh straight victory.
|
| At age 25, Hank Conger has reached the point in his development where his fate is out of his hands. He can hit at Triple-A -- he's had three years to prove it -- but until Angels manager Mike Scioscia, himself a former catcher, learns to live with Conger's limitations behind the plate, the switch-hitter won't get a fair shake at the major-league level. Seeing as top catcher Chris Iannetta signed a three-year extension at the start of the offseason, Scioscia doesn't figure to be making any compromises anytime soon. Of course, Conger's offensive potential (he has hit .297 over his minor-league career) makes him a potential contributor in AL-only formats if he's able to get more than 200 at-bats in a reserve role, but the Angels won't even guarantee him that. No, his best chance of contributing in Fantasy is with another organization, so unless he gets traded between now and opening day, you can probably ignore him in Fantasy. (Updated 1/2/13) |
