| Brian Duensing shakes off illness |

(4/25/13) Twins reliever Brian Duensing was able to pitch for the first time in five days Thursday, after overcoming a bout of flu-like symptoms.
Duensing pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out one batter. He needed just 16 pitches in the outing. The Twins lost the game, 2-1.
Duensing has a 2.84 ERA with four strikeouts, two walks and eight hits allowed in 6 1/3 innings.

(4/24/13) Twins reliever Brian Duensing did not appear in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Marlins due to flu-like symptoms.
Duensing received an IV before the doubleheader in order to get fluids into his system. The left-hander has allowed two runs in 4 2/3 innings of work and is listed as day to day.

(4/23/13) Twins reliever Brian Duensing is dealing with flu-like symptoms and may not be available Tuesday, according to FoxSportsNorth.
Duensing admitted that if the team had played yesterday, he would not have been able to pitch. He'll receive an IV prior to Tuesday's game in order to try and get fluids into his system.

(3/8/13) Twins pitcher Brian Duensin made another relief appearance in Friday's contest against Red Sox. He came in for Mike Pelfrey as he pitched two perfect innings of work and struck out one and did not issue a walk in a 2-0 victory. Considered a darkhorse for a spot in the starting rotation to begin the regular season, Duensin has now a 3.38 ERA over this spring.

(3/5/13) Twins relief pitcher Brian Duensing fired two scoreless innings during Minnesota's 8-5 loss to Tampa Bay in Grapefruit action Tuesday. Duensing relieved starter Liam Hendriks for the start of the fourth inning and registered a strikeout and a walk. Considered a darkhorse for a spot in the starting rotation to begin the regular season, he is now sporting a 4.50 ERA over four spring appearances, all relief outings.

| Over the last two seasons, Brian Duensing has a 5.66 ERA in 39 appearances as a starter and a 3.61 ERA in 48 appearances as a reliever. Pretty cut-and-dried, right? Yet for some reason, the Twins keep trying to force him back into the starting rotation. Of course, they're not exactly dripping with alternatives, and even with the additions of Vance Worley, Kevin Correia and Mike Pelfrey this offseason, that remains true today. Duensing will be in the mix for a rotation spot this spring, but winning it wouldn't be the greatest thing for his Fantasy value. Granted, his limited strikeout potential makes him not so valuable as a reliever either, but as a starter, he would likely do you more harm than good in Al-only leagues. (Updated 1/8/13) |
