Donaldson doesn't disappoint skipper: A's manager Bob Melvin told MLB.com prior to Friday's game with the Giants he had confidence in his struggling third baseman, Josh Donaldson. Donaldson did not disappoint his skipper as he went 3 for 4 with five RBI. He hit two doubles and a home run off starter Barry Zito in the third inning. Despite Donaldson's offensive explosion, Oakland would fall to San Francisco, 8-6. (Updated 05/19/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Donaldson entered Friday's contest on a 1-for-17 slump. He was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento last week, but Melvin saw something in Donaldson. "You have to give him a little room to grow," Melvin said. "I think, for the most part, he's done well defensively. When they're struggling like that, you have to support them. You do address the issues, but you have to support them and let them know you have confidence in them." Fantasy owners in AL-only formats can take a flier on Donaldson while he's getting playing time. (Updated 05/19/2012).
