McCutchen struggling out of bullpen: Pittsburgh RP Daniel McCutchen (2-1) surrendered three hits, including a home run, in two innings during the Pirates' 8-1 loss to the Mets on Friday night. McCutchen replaced ineffective starter Charlie Morton in the fifth after he allowed a leadoff triple to Angel Pagan. McCutchen then gave up a sacrifice fly to Lucas Duda in the following at-bat before allowing the next two batters to reach base. But the right-hander avoided more trouble in the inning when Josh Thole was caught stealing and Dillon Gee grounded into a fielder's choice. (Updated 06/10/2011)

Fantasy Analysis
McCutchen wasn't as fortunate in the sixth inning as he surrendered a leadoff homer to Jose Reyes -- the second time he has been taken deep in his last six appearances. Despite coming up as a starter, McCutchen has pitched exclusively out of the bullpen this season and has faltered recently. He has now permitted a run four times over his last seven outings to raise his ERA to 2.05. Fantasy owners should consider him a low-end RP option in deeper NL-only formats, especially since he won't earn many save chances. (Updated 06/10/2011).
