|Austin Romine feeling better, yet to pass concussion test |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(9/12/13) Yankees catcher Austin Romine feels "much better" than he did a few days ago but still needs to pass concussion testing before he'll be allowed back on the field, Newsday reports.
Romine suffered a slight concussion Tuesday after being hit on the back of the head by a bat during a back swing. He has hit .207/.255/.296 with one home run and 10 RBI in 135 at-bats.
|Austin Romine hit .207 in 135 at-bats last season, with one home run and a steal. After missing most of 2012 with back issues, Romine probably had some rust to shake off, which may have been behind his .198 average by the end of July. A former top prospect, Romine does have some batting average potential, but failed to show much spark in 2013. He'll likely be given a shot to redeem himself as a backup in 2014, as his competition is a player who missed most of the season with injury and then a Biogenesis suspension (Francisco Cervelli). Despite the tempered optimism, Romine can be left undrafted in most formats.
