|Alexei Ramirez swats 12th home run Sunday |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(8/24/14) White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez went 1 for 5 with a solo home run in his team's 7-4 loss to the Yankees Sunday.
Ramirez led off the game with the home run, which was his first since Aug. 2. He has hit .285/.318/.418 with 12 home runs, 60 RBI and 18 stolen bases in 505 at-bats.
|Even though Alexei Ramirez's power continued to evaporate, he enjoyed a bounceback season for the White Sox in 2013. Ramirez surprised Fantasy owners by delivering 30 stolen bases, when he had never produced as many as 20 in a season before. He also cut back on strikeouts, and when Ramirez made contact, he hit line drives at a career-high 22 percent rate. Those developments combined to help Ramirez to a .284 batting average, which was his highest since his 2008 rookie season. Still, he doesn't draw walks and 10-homer, 70-RBI season could be a thing of the past. At the age of 32, it's more realistic to expect Ramirez's contact skills to wane rather than improve, so a dip in batting average is likely on the way. Though Ramirez was a top 10 shortstop this past season, he could take a tumble in the 2014 rankings, making him more of a last resort in standard mixed leagues. Rotisserie owners are better off going after the stolen base upside of someone like Jonathan Villar, while Head-to-Head owners are better off with someone like Brad Miller or Jed Lowrie, both of whom walk more frequently.
